LEITNER forging ahead with ropeway projects in Austria

LEITNER is currently implementing several pioneering ropeway projects in Austria. The focus is on building new systems in Tyrol and Styria, as well as the targeted modernization of existing systems. The projects will feature key technologies such as ROPERA®, the new standard for monocable uni-directional ropeways, the LEITNER DirectDrive and LeitPilot.

Overview of the projects

Glungezer, Tyrol

The new detachable 6-seater “Schartenkogel-Express” chairlift is the first ROPERA® system in Austria. The lift is equipped with the LEITNER DirectDrive system and features premium EVO chairs with integrated seat heating for greater ride comfort.

Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis, Tyrol

The new detachable 8-seater “Planseggbahn” chairlift replaces an existing system and achieves a capacity of up to 4,000 passengers per hour. The facility is equipped for autonomous station operation thanks to LeitPilot.

Kreischberg, Styria

The detachable 8-seater “Rosenkranz” chairlift boasts a capacity of 4,000 passengers per hour, an HCL system and premium EVO chairs.

Venetbahn, Tyrol

The historic aerial tramway is undergoing extensive modernization, including new 44-seater cabins, a barrier-free bottom station and technical optimizations that will significantly reduce wind susceptibility and operational disruptions.

Hochfügen, Tyrol

The 10-seater “Kalte Kuchl” gondola lift is another ROPERA® system that will be built by 2027. The plan includes the use of LeitPilot and premium Diamond EVO cabins with seat heating.

These projects highlight the ongoing further development of modern ropeway technology in Austria. They combine efficiency, comfort and sustainable infrastructure, and consolidate LEITNER’s presence in the main Alpine regions.
