LEITNER now makes bike transport by chairlift even easier

LEITNER, with its two new systems, is now setting the standard for flexibility, safety and comfort for all those who want to enjoy the mountains on two wheels. The transport solutions designed for chairlifts vary depending on the design of the chairlift - with or without bubble - and can be quickly and easily integrated. Add-ons, such as the bike box, make it possible for bikers to try the transport solution before boarding and get all the necessary information they need for a smooth ride.

The ease of use and assembly make the new systems attractive add-ons that transform chairlifts into a perfectly sophisticated means of transport for bikes in just a few easy steps. On chairlifts without bubbles, the bike mount is fastened to the frame of the chair, keeping the loaded vehicle perfectly balanced and preventing it from swinging to one side. Since there are no direct points of contact between the chair and the bike, the latter is perfectly protected from shocks or becoming dirty during the ride. For chairlifts without bubble, the structure made of CE-certified aluminum is available in different versions: Up to two bike racks can be installed on

  • - 4-seater chairs with up to two bike racks
  • - 6-seater chairs with up to three bike racks
  • - 8-seater chairs with up to four bike racks

For chairlifts with bubbles, LEITNER uses its specially designed transport vehicle to carry the bikes. It can be hooked on without great effort and transports up to four bikes. To ensure stress-free and safe unloading at the top station, the transport carrier is stopped in the station in stop & go operation. In Italy, an existing 8-seater chairlift (CD8C Gran Paradiso) with bubbles was retrofitted with seven transport vehicles.

"Due to growing demand to use our chairlift also for bike transport in summer, we decided to retrofit the LEITNER bike transport vehicle in 2021. Thanks to this investment, we can now transport 4 times as many bikes and significantly reduce the waiting time for bikers and the effort for our lift staff. The transport vahicle allows guests to load their bikes on their own and without any problems, and to unload them again quickly and easily when they get off the lift. This system has helped us, among other things, to become a bike destination and to offer an excellent service for our guests.”

The 6-seater chairlift at Geisskopf (CD6 Geisskopf), on the other hand, was equipped for bikers right from the start. The installation on this popular leisure mountain is able to offer transport of up to six walkers or up to three bikers and two walkers per chair. This means that the Geisskopf now offers the ideal conditions to enjoy the many downhill routes comfortably and to the full.

"Since 95% of our summer guests are bikers, we wanted to make a new investment especially in this sector and LEITNER offered us a perfect overall concept. A high-quality, stable and durable bike rack was one of the main criteria when deciding on the project. Furthermore, the LEITNER control unit, which was customized to our needs, was convincing, allowing our passengers to easily load and unload as well as ensuring a trouble-free switch between winter and summer operation. The adaptation of a "Bigline” to transport particularly large bicycles with a long wheelbase was also quickly realized with the LEITNER team. The feedback from guests has been enormously positive and we are very satisfied with the implementation of this project, and with LEITNER as an extremely competent partner.”

- Franz Dominik Frhr. v. Poschinger-Bray, CD6 Geisskopfbahn owner

Getting acquainted with the Bike Box

The Bike Box, developed by LEITNER as a test station allows bikers to “get to know” how the new transport technology works. The box can be set up near the ropeway boarding area, offering the opportunity to practice handling before boarding. In addition to the boarding procedure, bikers will also find information on the requirements for the bike to ensure safe transport. To make the boarding procedure even easier to understand, the box also features pictograms. Alternatively, a screen can be integrated into the box to display the appropriate explanatory video for the procedure.
